Helly Hansen NOOD Results

Congratulations to Pete Kassal and and Spaceman Spiff team, who took first place in the 2016 Helly Hansen NOOD Regatta!

Three days of tough competition and variable wind conditions made for a great weekend! Light air on Friday turned into even lighter air on Saturday, but Sunday’s big breeze certainly made up for it.

A total of five races were scored for the six competitors. Pat FitzGerald and the Rush Hour finished second with nine points and Peter Rich and Buxton finished third with 17. Full results are listed below.

We’d also like to extend a big welcome to Will Davenport and the JABB crew and Ben Sliwka and the Aja crew who are both new to the fleet and will be racing with us this summer!

What Else:
-Have the Pro’s sail with us & follow-up with a dock-talk at least as often as last year.
-Mark Rivera agreed to be the point person for those skippers looking for crew, and for crew looking to race. Also, be sure to join our Facebook group and Crew Finder Group.
-All the skippers at the meeting agreed to pick-out one of their crew and have them buy a used J-24 & to come out & race with us. Just kidding…
But, those who race weekend races would like to invite you who only race Thursdays to come out & race some of our weekend events.

The ECC
The J-24 East Coast Championship has been a J-24 tradition, and our season-ending regatta in Annapolis for years. It wasn’t unusual to see 50+ plus J-24’s racing over Halloween weekend where our local racers mixed it up with some of the best J-24 sailors in the world. Since the great recession weekend racing & the ECC have seen declines in participation – a trend we’d like to reverse as far as the ECC is concerned. How? To start the process we have a survey that I will forward to all skippers that would help us in the planning for this years event. And, we need to have more of our local sailors join the fun.
Example: Mike Murray (Roo) was short crew leading up to the regatta this past October, so he recruited 4 high school/college sailors from the junior program at SSA to crew for him!  Why not make one of your seasons goals this year to join the fun at the ECC Oct. 28 – Oct. 30, if you are able? Let me, Peter Rich, Mark Rivera or Mike Murray know what it would take to have you join the fun!
